Meet Kevin Cardiff

Master Violin Maker

Kevin Cardiff received his Master of Music at Yale. He has performed with the Rochester Philharmonic under David Zinman, New Haven Symphony under Murry Sidlin, Chautauqua (NY) Symphony, Baltimore Symphony under Sergiu Commissiona and David Zinman, and was a member of the Las Vegas Philharmonic Guild until 2015. He is speaker at many events involving stringed instruments and is the owner and proprietor of Kevin Cardiff, Violinmaker, specializing in handmade violins, restoration and repair.

Mr. Cardiff was awarded Best Custom Made Violins by the Baltimore Magazine in 1993 and Best String Repair Shop in 2003. He was one of twelve professionals featured in the book Working in Music by Barbara Lee. He also repaired the “ex Kosman” G.B. Guadagnini violin immediately prior to its setting a world record auction price at Christie’s, London, in November, 1993. He worked in appraisal, restoration and repair of the Peabody Institute Stringed Instrument Collection at Johns Hopkins University from 1991 to 2008.

In addition, Mr. Cardiff was featured in a Youtube video titled “Las Vegas Violinmaker” by Las Vegas Review-Journal videographer Michael Quine in 2009. He also appeared as a guest expert on the History Channel TV Series “Pawn Stars” in 2011.
