To the Alumni, Current & Alumni Parents, and friends:

-

The fall is in full swing and the Harvard Club of Nevada is excited for another academic year filled with important (and enjoyable) opportunities to advance the spirit of Harvard here in the Las Vegas valley!

-

In addition to the start of a new academic calendar, this fall marks a leadership transition for our local Club.  After almost two decades as President, Clarence Coakley will transition to the position of Immediate Past President, as a new individual has been voted in to guide the many responsibilities of the Club as President-Elect.  I am pleased to have secured the Board’s vote to serve in that role. A graduate of the College in 2004, I played football for the Crimson and was a resident of Quincy House.  I have been fortunate to call Las Vegas home for almost 10 years and reside in Summerlin.

-

At its core, our mission at the Harvard Club of Nevada is threefold; to encourage the social and intellectual interests of our members, to promote the welfare of Harvard University locally, and to foster the Harvard Spirit that our local alumni community uniquely share.

-

While the Club’s leadership works to host a number of social events throughout the year (of which we hope you are able to attend and enjoy, watch your email for information on an upcoming special breakfast event in mid-January!), alumni participation in our many volunteer programs is what defines a successful Club.

-

We lead numerous important programs that seek to not only promote Harvard to our area’s most talented high school students, but to also speak on the importance of higher education, in a meaningful way, to students and schools extending well beyond a Harvard-centric message.  Please visit the Harvard Club’s website to stay current on opportunities to advance the spirit of Harvard here in southern Nevada.

-

One immediate way alumni can contribute locally is to conduct applicant interviews. Information on becoming an interviewer for Harvard College can be found here: https://college.harvard.edu/alumni-interview-interest-form.  Shawanna Johnson will be leading this effort and will contact those interested this fall with information and training dates.

-

Finally, if you have not already done so, I ask that you please formally join the Club! Memberships run on an academic-year calendar, starting from September 1st  through August 31st.  We would love to have you as an official member!
