What is the primary function of the Harvard Club of Nevada?

The Harvard Club of Nevada has several functions, the most significant of which is assisting the Undergraduate Admissions Office with the annual application and evaluation process. Harvard’s goal is to provide a personal interview for each applicant, often through its network of alumni/ae throughout the world, so students don’t need to travel to campus. I remember distinctly my Harvard interview conducted by a Las Vegas doctor in 1966, and he has remained a good friend since that time. We attempt to bring out the strengths of our Nevada applicants that may not appear on the application itself in test scores, GPA’s, and lists of extracurricular activities. Because so many well-qualified students apply each year, the interview process is designed to bring out unique aspects of each applicant, including intellectual curiosity, commitment in depth to a project or venture, and desire to accept challenges. The Club also provides a social and intellectual outlet within the community, often joining with other similar alumni organizations in Nevada.(Submitted by Peter C. Bernhard)

What activities are provided for local alumni by the Harvard Club of  Nevada?

As a volunteer organization, we rely on alumni and members to guide our event calendar. Each year, we host the Annual Spring Reception and Prize Book Ceremony to honor high-achieving, local students. In the past we have hosted Harvard faculty dinners, social events like the summer bbq, and have participated in local networking events, like the Global Networking Night (GNN) through the HAA. We welcome input from members who would like us to host events or other activities when possible.
